Summary of evidence Radiocarbon Dating Age: N/A What era: probably post Iron Age Sample from: 0.8m to 1.5m     Sediments Light greenish grey soft clayey silt.  Pollen Open grassland seeds, common sorrel and cereal plants;  Foraminifera &            Ostracods High saltmarsh forams  Diatoms Marine diatoms  Molluscs Marine/estuarine fauna of burrowing and encrusting bivalves and marine group of snails

Putting the evidence together This is typical of the high saltmarsh which used to be more extensive in the harbour. This example still remains behind the spit at Ellanore
