Art and Design

Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is an inspiration for artists, not only for the views, but also as a source of materials.
Activities may include observational drawing, field sketching, landscape painting and model making etc., driftwood collage, willow weaving

Citizenship

Concepts of Citizenship may be addressed in a variety of ways including investigating working together and caring for other people, animals and the environment. Citizenship is interpreted during our Junior Conservancy days.

English

Language pervades almost every element of study in the harbour environment, providing stimulation for creative writing, stories, poems, debate and drama as well as reporting field work including observations, data collection, identification and conclusions.

Geography

Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty provides diverse opportunities for geographical investigation at every level. Study may relate to natural processes such as coastal erosion, the formation of rivers or weather or issues relating to human activity including recreational use and management of the environment.

History

Chichester Harbour has a long and interesting history. Along the shoreline may be discovered fossil remains, boulders from the Ice Age, worked Stone Age flints, Roman pottery, medieval artefacts, derelict structures from the industrial past and relics from World War II.

ICT

Much study and research in the natural environment employs the use of information and communication technology. The investigation of natural processes, the impact of humans in the environment or the distribution of habitats and species may all be assisted by the use of computer technology. Chichester Harbour is equipped with digital recording systems for monitoring and data collection and the Education Centre employs the use of internet linked computers for identification and data analysis.

Maths

Investigate the exciting mathematics of the harbour including changing weather patterns, the rhythms of the tides, the movements of migrating species, navigational techniques or the statistics of recreational use.
