About the service
Chichester Harbour Education runs an Education Service for local schools, colleges and interest groups and the wider educational community, offering a variety of educational opportunities.The Education Service is based at Dell Quay, where there is a
well-equipped classroom, a meeting room and an office.

The service is run at cost and administered by a team of qualified teachers, assisted by volunteers from the Friends of Chichester Harbour. The service covers all areas of the curriculum and is for any age.
Planning & booking
All activities are pre-planned and individually tailored by the teaching team, to the requirements of the visiting school, college or other institution.
Pre-visits are encouraged. All activities are covered by our health & safety policy, child protection policy and risk assessments.
Field Trips are:
• individually planned
• for any age group
• lead by qualified teachers
• catered for any curriculum focus
• available at a range of harbour locations

Road Shows
Visits to educational establishments are also part of the service; teachers offer a range of input from talks with slides to curriculum related music, drama and environmental puppet workshops.

Curriculum Opportunities
First hand experience of the natural environment is a fundamental part of education. On top of this Chichester Harbour provides an opportunity to explore a wide range of curriculum topics ranging from geography to art, history to citizenship.

There is a well-equipped classroom at Dell Quay, with field study equipment such as ranging poles, clinometers, quadrats, nets etc.; a good selection of field study guides as well as binoculars, microscopes and a telescope. There are 5 computers with internet access and a range of useful software.
Other resources include artefacts, puppets and theatres, art materials as well as reference books and publications.
The solar powered floating classroom ‘Solar Heritage’ (seating capacity 50) is also available for accompanied trips afloat by schools, colleges and other groups.

Stuffed full of artefacts, books, maps, CDs, and musical instruments, these Sea Chests are available free for loan to schools. An invaluable resource to support study of water, the seaside or as a follow up to a visit to Chichester Harbour.
