Holding Back the Tide (of litter)

Staff from Chichester Harbour Conservancy joined volunteers from the Bosham Association to clear the shoreline on Shore Road, Bosham. Large amounts of litter and seaweed washed over the seawall during the winter storms, leaving an unsightly and rather smelly gift for the residents of the village. Armed with rakes, shovels and wheelbarrows,  a great deal of flotsam and jetsam  was collected, filling two skips .

Siún Cranny, Director of Chichester Harbour Conservancy, said "We were delighted to be able to help the Bosham community to restore this beautiful part of the harbour shoreline. Without our assistance the Bosham Association and Parish Council were faced with the depressing task of tackling this project over many days - it was truly a case of many hands make light work".

The Bosham Association has been raising funds and has secured permission to replace the existing failing sea defences with a new Trippet Wall extension. The clearance works will help pave the way for works to start on the new wall.
