With another season just getting underway the Chichester Harbour Conservancy Patrol team have been training and preparing for the summer months ahead.
The team have just completed three days of intensive training to ensure that they are well equipped to help everyone safely enjoy the beautiful natural environment of Chichester Harbour.
Covering safety topics, boat skills, towing, customer service and byelaw enforcement both well seasoned staff and some new faces enjoyed the varied and testing training program that included a joint exercise involving both the Fire Service and local Coastguard teams.
New recruit and ex Navy Deck Officer Susanna Stokes said “I’m really excited to be part of the team this summer and looking forward to meeting the varied spectrum of harbour users.”
In 2013 the Patrol team dealt with over 200 incidents last year including seven prosecutions for vessels speeding in the harbour.
“Promoting safe enjoyment and protection of the beauty of Chichester Harbour are our main priorities. I’m confident and pleased that once again we have a friendly and well trained Patrol team - ready to go” said Philip Walker – Deputy Harbour Master and Patrol team manager.
