John Lewis staff help with footpath maintenance

On Wednesday 25th January, RG Group and John Lewis' Project Team donated their time and materials to help resurface a well worn section of coastal footpath in Itchenor.

Whilst working in Chichester as main contractors on the new John Lewis at home shop on the Portfield Retail Park, RG Group made contact with Chichester Harbour Conservancy to see if there was anything they could do to help - and there certainly was!

The volunteers split into two teams and re-surfaced 300m of footpath each, with 10 tons of marine shingle in total.

Siún Cranny, Director of Chichester Harbour Conservancy said, ‘We are very grateful to RG Group and John Lewis for taking the time to undertake these much needed footpath improvements. This work will greatly improve a section of coastal path that is heavily used and much enjoyed by local people and visitors alike. With over 90km of footpaths to manage, we rely on the support of volunteers to complement our ranger team; without this support, we could not achieve what we do.'

RG Group is an Associate Member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, a nationwide, not-for-profit scheme which aims to improve the image of Construction, and take great pride in helping out the communities in which they work. Bryony Levermore, Project Manager for RG Group on the John Lewis Project said ‘We are delighted to be helping Chichester Harbour Conservancy with such a worthwhile initiative whilst we are in town. We are very pleased this will make such a big difference to the local communities that regularly use the footpath.'

Gavin Smith, Occupation Manager for John Lewis, commented: "We're pleased to be part of such an exciting initiative. We always invest in the communities in which we trade and are confident this will have a really positive impact on those using the coastal path, now and in the future."
