Festival of Working Boats & Jubilee Sail Past
Over 600 people came along, climbed onboard and met the crews of the many boats that work in Chichester Harbour. The Conservancy's barge, the Hayling Lifeboat, charter vessels, training RIBs and many more were all on display alongside the jetty at Itchenor.
In addition families were able to visit Haines Boatyard, make nautical flags and visit a maritime art exhibition. Our wandering minstrels, 'The Harbour Buoys' were here, there and everywhere with their own renditions of sea shanties.
At 3pm we were joined by Mrs Susan Pyper, Lord-Lieutenant of Sussex and Dame Mary Fagan DCVO JP, Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire. They, along with other guests boarded Solar Heritage and enjoyed a Sail Past of 25 vessels to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee. Six shots from the canon at Itchenor Sailing Club, each representing a decade of the Queen's reign, rang out to start the Sail Past.
The Drascombe Lugger, Fargo, representing Thorney Island Sailing Club won best dressed boat.
