Chichester Harbour Conservancy - Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Eames Farm & The Stables

In 2008 West Sussex County Council granted a 999-year lease to Chichester  Harbour Trust for 71 hectares (177 acres) of farmland at Eames Farm, within Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The farm lies at the heart of the AONB and boasts extensive coastal grazing marsh of national and international importance for its plants and bird life. The site is managed on a 999-year lease through Chichester Harbour Conservancy, who in turn manage the day-to-day operations through a 10-year Farm Business Tenancy (FBT), with a local, organic, beef farmer. The whole site, some 117 hectares (290 acres), is farmed through the Higher Level Stewardship agri-environment scheme and is currently undergoing organic conversion.

An old stable block, an L-shape flint building with courtyard, had been converted into office, storage and community areas. The community area will be used for events such as talks and open farm days to raise public awareness of the importance of farming to our landscape. In addition, the site will be used for National curriculum-linked educational activities and to promote farming best practice.

The Stables offers an ideal meeting space and will be used by the Conservancy and its partner organisations. It is also available for hire by local groups and organisations. For more information please contact Alison Fowler.
