The Sussex Police Project Kraken crime and counter-terrorism scheme has a new look website. The scheme has been extended to now include registrations from individual boat owners and coastal residents. The front page contains an easy to follow on-line registration form, a poster and leaflet, details of what suspicious behaviour to look out for, a crime prevention page, quarterly newsletter and an urgent news alert which is updated daily with crime and incidents which may affect you directly.
The aim is to increase the awareness of residents and boat owners with regard to current trends concerning coastal and marine crime. As many boat owners as possible are requested to register their craft with their contact details. The confidential police recording of members' boats and its equipment is anticipated to be an added security measure should it unfortunately be targeted by criminals. For instance - if a boat is stolen an email alert can be put out to members, potential witnesses on the coast, on the water and through the website.
In the event of a theft or any other noteworthy incidents members will be informed by e mail of what to look out for and report. The scheme works alongside Hampshire Police's Project Kraken.
