Chichester Harbour Conservancy - Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Patrol

Incident Report | Staff & Vessels | Working in Partnership

Role of the Team

The roles of the Patrol team are:
• To enable the safe enjoyment and use of the harbour by giving mariners practical assistance afloat, advice and directions in accordance with the byelaws.
• To supervise the running of the Conservancy hards, pontoons and jetties.
• To collect harbour dues and other charges.

Reporting of Incidents

With over 50 miles of shoreline and 17 miles of navigable channel in the harbour, the patrol team cannot be everywhere at once and we need your eyes and ears to help keep us informed. If you see a breach of the byelaws, a vessel hitting a moored boat, someone needing assistance or a suspicious incident, please let the patrol know on VHF Channel 14 - call sign 'Chichester Harbour Patrol'.
To report an incident including theft, collision or dangerous navigation, please complete an incident report and email it to the Patrol Officer.

Working in Partnership

The Patrol team work along with Sussex Ambulance Service to provide a First Responder service for those onboard vessels or in hard to reach areas of the harbour. The Patrol can provide a first aid service until the Ambulance are able to arrive.
A partnership has also been set up with the West Sussex Fire Brigade to ensure that the fire service can be transported to vessels with a fire on board.

Staff & Vessels

The Patrol team is managed by full time Patrol Officer Roger Young. The Deputy Patrol Officers are Adrian Karn and Michael Ward. The team are supported by seasonal staff.

The Patrol Team can be contacted on VHF Channel 14 call sign Chichester Harbour Patrol or via the Harbour Office.
