Introduction | Directions | Map

Being ‘green' can make a great day out. This itinerary is all about relaxing, having a few treats on the way and having a minimum impact on the environment while you are at it. Leaving the car at home is a great way to appreciate the countryside as you get much better views from the bus and it is far less stressful as there is no hunting for a parking space!

Note the Solar Heritage only runs from Emsworth during July - mid September. Please check the what's on page for departure times and adjust the day to suit.

1. Use the Coastliner Bus 700 to arrive in Emsworth. This bus travels every 30 minutes during peak times between Portsmouth and Brighton with stops at Havant, Chichester and other places along the A259. The route from Chichester to Emsworth takes in excellent harbour views as the bus travels along the A259.

 2. Follow the Emsworth to Langstone walk. There are lots of benches along the route if you want a rest to admire the view.

 5. Back in Emsworth treat yourself to lunch at one of the restaurants that have excellent value set lunch menus. These include 36 On the Quay and Fat Olives. Alternatively there are lots of pubs and cafes in the village.

 6. Head down to the public jetty, just off the sea wall for a trip on Solar Heritage. This solar-powered passenger boat is a good way to see the harbour from the water in an environmentally friendly way. The catamaran hulls mean minimum wash so less erosion of the banks. The boat is run on electricity generated by the solar panels so the engines are virtually silent and don't disturb the wildlife. Look out for the seals that are often seen off Thorney Island.
