Days Out

Outstanding Week

Celebrating our area of outstanding beauty is an important part in our work to conserve and protect Chichester Harbour, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Outstanding Week - which this year runs from Saturday 16th September to Sunday 24th September, is a week (and a bit) of events in which all AONBs come together to celebrate all each area has to offer.

The Chichester Harbour Trail - our annual 3 day, 38 mile walk - runs during Outstanding Week and allows walkers to take in the Chichester Harbour shoreline and its stunning scenery. The walk begins on 15th September with a 12-mile route from Langstone to Nutbourne. Day 2 picks up at Nutbourne and takes those participating through to Fishbourne. The final day offers a 12-mile path from Fishbourne through the West Wittering. The trail is flexible, and walkers can choose to take part in all three days, or just one or two.

For those wanting to enjoy the Harbour in other ways during Outstanding Week there is of course plenty to do. Walking and cycling trails allow you to explore the Harbour at your own pace and route, and there are numerous opportunities to spot the birds and wildlife which live in the area. Alternatively, you can join one of the cruises on our solar powered Boat - Solar Heritage - between Monday 18th and Thursday 21st September, to take in the Harbour's beauty at a leisurely pace.

More information about the Trail - and online booking - is available here

#harbour100 is an opportunity to set yourself a challenge based in the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It could be collecting or recording a hundred of whatever you choose - be it exercise, flora and fauna, hours spent on art or simply 100 hours taking time out to enjoy the peace, tranquillity and beauty of the Harbour.

Have a great day out!

You can never go wrong with a day on the beach, especially when it’s a Blue Flag beach with miles of sand. So pack up your bucket and spade, get on your bikes and get ready for a fun-filled day out.

Visit the maritime town of Emsworth to explore it’s oyster heritage and then take a trip in a unique Victorian oyster boat.

This route takes in lovely harbour views, a trip across the channel on a ferry, lots of refreshment opportunities and a visit to a historic village. Best of all, the route is virtually flat.

Go back in time and imagine the harbour as it would have been in Roman times. This day out includes a visit to a Roman Palace, a cycle ride and a pleasant stroll along the shoreline looking for Roman artefacts.

Wrap up warm and grab your binoculars and a bird guide to follow our great bird-spotting day out.

Being ‘green’ can make a great day out. This itinerary is all about relaxing, having a few treats on the way and having a minimum impact on the environment while you are at it.
