April 2012

Hello again to all you readers.

All I can really say is "Oh, its raining again", which seems to be all I have been saying this last month.  However we really do need it this time as we have been experiencing a drought for quite a few years now, and it should hopefully replenish some of the rivers, tributaries and especially our reservoirs. I know that Fishbourne Meadows will definitely benefit from the downpour and in turn it should hopefully encourage even more Southern Marsh and Early Purple orchids this season.

This month saw our Friends team out in Fishbourne Meadows pulling and tugging on the resident Hemlock waterdrop-wort that still blights us year on year. I would like to say a big thank you to all of you who attended this event.

Also this month we had friends team undertaking a litter pick on Pilsey Island. This was a bit of a task as it was blowing a gale, and as you may have guessed, raining. With all this going on the group all went out onto the headland and still managed to collect 11 bags of rubbish and lots of plastic bits as expected.

I have also had a wander through the woods of Salterns Copse and all the hard work that has been undertaken over the last four years has really come into its own. The Bluebells are absolutely marvelous and there are a great many Primroses, Anemones and Sorrel. This would not have been as much as of a success had there not been a copious amount of cutting and chopping, most of the work was done by the Friends team. The hard work, time and dedication from the group means I must give all of you pat on the back.

I urge you all to go and have a nosey around the woods edge and take a few photos or take a little picnic with you and enjoy the bluebells. I find it a most relaxing and very pretty place. Only if it’s not raining like it has been all week.

Well that’s all from me this month, but tune in next month to catch up with Keith next time.

See whilst I’m out and about

Regards

Georgie
