Special boat trips for children

Time for some half term family fun! Join one of our our special half term boat trips. A member of our education team and a local bird expert will join you on board. Our experts will tell you and your family lots of fascinating facts about our local wildlife and beautiful harbour. Choose from our Birds Ahoy! Trip on Wednesday 30th October, suitable for all ages, or the Introduction to Bird Watching Trip on Friday 1st October, ideal for older children and teens.

Over 30 thousand birds spend their winters here in Chichester Harbour, including Brent Geese, Godwits, Curlew, Dunlin, Wigeon and many other species of wildfowl and waders.  They come here to feed and rest before migrating back to their breeding grounds in the spring. Don’t miss this special annual sight. Watching wildlife from the water gives you a unique view and gives families a quiet and peaceful way to observe the birds with minimal disturbance. The boat is open-sided with superb panoramic harbour views. It has a large deck meaning there is plenty of space to move around. We have binoculars for you to try (including kids binoculars) or feel free to bring your own.

Why not bring along your favourite snacks and a flask of hot chocolate. Wrap up warm and enjoy an outdoor family picnic while you travel along.

Trips depart from Itchenor or Dell Quay, waterside villages just a short journey from Chichester.

Protecting Coastal Birds in Chichester Harbour

Chichester Harbour is a large tidal estuary surrounded by a variety of freshwater and terrestrial habitats such as woodlands, reedbeds, lagoons, wet grassland and arable farmland. These habitats make it vitally important for huge numbers of birds throughout the year. Our focus is on protecting and restoring Chichester Harbour’s coastal bird populations. We are working with partners to both reduce bird disturbance and to create habitat. Read more about our projects to protect coastal birds…
