Farming & Grants Officer - FT, permanent - £28,672 pa

We are recruiting a Farming & Grants Officer to join our Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Unit. This role will implement the exciting new programme - Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL). Created by Defra as part of the Agricultural Transition Plan, FiPL will help farmers, land managers and others to deliver work on the farmed landscape under the themes of climate, nature, people and place. This work will complement our existing work on nature recovery.

The successful candidate will join a thriving team and must be enthusiastic, pro-active with strong interpersonal skills. They will have experience in writing successful bids, engaging with farmers and land owners, managing budgets and partnership working.

Team Teachers, £11.64 ph - casual

We are recruiting two enthusiastic individuals to join our award winning Education Team as Team Teachers. This role will support the Education Service, which is based at Dell Quay, Chichester. The Team Teachers are part of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Unit and they deliver curriculum based teaching and help children and young adults to learn about the importance of Chichester Harbour.

Team Teachers are employed on a casual basis with hours offered and accepted in advance according to demand but the work is regular and the successful candidates will join a thriving and supportive team.

Solar Heritage Skippers

Solar Heritage is a unique vessel offering visitor trips in Chichester Harbour.  She is a virtually silent, solar-powered catamaran that seats up to 50 passengers, allowing them to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

We are recruiting skippers to join our bank of staff operating either from Itchenor or Emsworth.  Trips take place regularly throughout the year but with the majority during the spring, summer and autumn months.

Skippers are required to have a Boatmaster licence for category B and C waters or higher.

Work Experience

The Conservancy accepts two students per year on work experience placements.  The emphasis is on education, nature conservation and harbour management. Preference will be given to students attending local schools and/or with their main residence in the Harbour area.

We can offer a maximum of one week’s work equivalent to five working days.  The period of work is likely to include the weekends on either side of the working week with equivalent time off during the week.

Guidelines for applicants:

  • You need to be happy to work both in an office and outdoors

  • You will probably be asked to assist with a guided walk of some distance

  • You are likely to be involved with a practical outdoor tasks with the Rangers

  • You need appropriate outdoor gear for wet and muddy conditions and for going out on the water (a life jacket will be supplied)

  • You will require family support with transport due to the rural locations of our offices at Itchenor and Dell Quay

  • Written consent will be required from parents as placements are likely to include at least one session on the water

  • Due to health and safety at work regulations not all tasks are appropriate for work experience students.
