Harbour Technician

Permanent - Full-time  £21,693 - £23,866 (Grade 7)

We have a job opportunity available for someone to join our Harbour management team in Itchenor, part of beautiful Chichester Harbour.

You will be:

  • maintaining moorings, navigation marks, vessels and property to high standards;
  • skippering a range of small vessels and crewing our specialist moorings barge;
  • assisting people to safely enjoy the Harbour both on and off the water;
  • collecting harbour dues, mooring fees and other monies from Harbour users.

You will:

  • have experience in the service and maintenance of small plant and excellent practical skills;
  • have experience on the water either working or recreation;
  • be motivated and enjoy meeting and assisting the wide range of Harbour users;
  • have strong interpersonal skills, a strong team player and the confidence to act with authority where required.

You will work on the water all year round focussing on maintenance work, additionally, during the summer you will share Duty Coxswain and Patrol Officer responsibilities working some weekends on a rota.

We have an important job opportunity available for someone to be the face of Chichester Harbour Conservancy in Emsworth, part of beautiful Chichester Harbour, working with our harbour management team.

You will be:

  • assisting people to safely enjoy the Harbour both on and off the water;
  • maintaining moorings, navigation marks, vessels and property to high standards;
  • collecting harbour dues, mooring fees and other monies from Harbour users.

You will:

  • enjoy meeting and assisting the wide range of Harbour users;
  • have strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to act with authority where required;
  • have experience on the water either working or recreation;

  • have excellent practical skills.

You will work with the water all year round, in summer you will be mostly located in Emsworth working 5 days, including weekends, whilst in winter you will be based from our Harbour Office in Itchenor.  A summer only option may be available.

Assistant Patrol Officers - seasonal

Work Experience

The Conservancy accepts two students per year on work experience placements.  The emphasis is on education, nature conservation and harbour management. Preference will be given to students attending local schools and/or with their main residence in the Harbour area.
We can offer a maximum of one week’s work equivalent to five working days.  The period of work is likely to include the weekends on either side of the working week with equivalent time off during the  week.
 
Guidelines for applicants:
• you need to be happy to work both in an office and outdoors
• you will probably be asked to assist  with a guided walk of some distance
• you are likely to be involved with a practical outdoor  tasks with the Rangers
• you need appropriate outdoor gear for wet and muddy conditions and for going out on the water (a life jacket will be supplied)
• you will require family support with transport due to the rural locations of our offices at Itchenor and Dell Quay
• written consent will be required from parents as placements are likely to include at least one session on the water  
Due to health and safety at work regulations not all tasks are appropriate for work experience students.
