Full-time Receptionist

We are looking to recruit a full-time Receptionist to be the first point of contact at our busy Harbour Office.  You will deliver professional customer service whilst fielding the many and varied queries that we receive every day either in person or by phone.  You will take payment and issue harbour dues plaques to customers, provide visitor information to the public, prepare outgoing post and accept deliveries and support the finance team.

You will be:

  • outgoing and confident and enjoy being in a busy publicly facing environment
  • confident communicating on all levels with a diverse range of customers, visitors and colleagues to ensure a smooth-running operation
  • experienced in cash handling, till use and basic reconciliations
  • experienced in telephone call handling
  • confident using Office software and comfortable learning to use new systems
  • good at problem solving and able to use your initiative
  • able to travel using your own transport due to the location of the office

The position is full-time but we would consider offering a part-time job-share.  A good knowledge of the Chichester Harbour area would be an advantage, but full training will be given.

Pay: £18,795 - £19,171 per year (Grade 4)

Work experience

The Conservancy accepts two students per year on work experience placements.  The emphasis is on education, nature conservation and harbour management. Preference will be given to students attending local schools and/or with their main residence in the Harbour area.
We can offer a maximum of one week’s work equivalent to five working days.  The period of work is likely to include the weekends on either side of the working week with equivalent time off during the  week.
Guidelines for applicants:
• you need to be happy to work both in an office and outdoors
• you will probably be asked to assist  with a guided walk of some distance
• you are likely to be involved with a practical outdoor  tasks with the Rangers
• you need appropriate outdoor gear for wet and muddy conditions and for going out on the water (a life jacket will be supplied)
• you will require family support with transport due to the rural locations of our offices at Itchenor and Dell Quay
• written consent will be required from parents as placements are likely to include at least one session on the water  
Due to health and safety at work regulations not all tasks are appropriate for work experience students.
