Harbour Patrol 2022

Would you like to spend the summer working with a skilled, dynamic and fun team? We have opportunities in our Patrol team for full and part time work during the summer season between 01 April and 31 October 2022.

  • Do you enjoy a busy, active, marine environment that is different every day?
  • Are you available to work some weekends?
  • Will you be over 18 by April 2022?
  • Do you enjoy meeting people and providing assistance?
  • Do you enjoy taking on responsibility?

You will need RYA Powerboat Level II certificate and a VHF operator’s licence along with a good knowledge of Chichester Harbour by the time you start, so if you don't have these yet, there's plenty of time to qualify before the 2022 summer season.

Applications will formally open in February 2022, but if this sounds like you then call Ed Carter, Senior Deputy Harbour Master on 01243 512301 for a chat about the role.

Solar Heritage Skippers

Solar Heritage is a unique vessel offering visitor trips in Chichester Harbour.  She is a virtually silent, solar-powered catamaran that seats up to 50 passengers, allowing them to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

We are recruiting skippers to join our bank of staff operating either from Itchenor or Emsworth.  Trips take place regularly throughout the year but with the majority during the spring, summer and autumn months.

Skippers are required to have a Boatmaster licence for category B and C waters or higher.

We offer regular work and good rates of pay and are always looking to add to our regular bank of staff, so if you would like to know more, please download the job description and person specification and contact Adrian Karn – Deputy Harbour Master on 01243 512301.

Work Experience

The Conservancy accepts two students per year on work experience placements.  The emphasis is on education, nature conservation and harbour management. Preference will be given to students attending local schools and/or with their main residence in the Harbour area.

We can offer a maximum of one week’s work equivalent to five working days.  The period of work is likely to include the weekends on either side of the working week with equivalent time off during the week.

Guidelines for applicants:

  • You need to be happy to work both in an office and outdoors
  • You will probably be asked to assist with a guided walk of some distance
  • You are likely to be involved in practical outdoor tasks with the Rangers
  • You need appropriate outdoor gear for wet and muddy conditions and for going out on the water (a life jacket will be supplied)
  • You will require family support with transport due to the rural locations of our offices at Itchenor and Dell Quay
  • Written consent will be required from parents as placements are likely to include at least one session on the water
  • Due to health and safety at work regulations not all tasks are appropriate for work experience students.

Application deadlines for academic year, September 2021 – August 2022

Applications are accepted in the autumn for placements in the following year.   Successful applicants will be contacted to confirm dates.  All unsuccessful applicants will be notified.
