Two-wheeled exploring – new App-Bikes at Itchenor

cycling on the saltns way

There’s a new way to get around from Itchenor – App-Bikes!  The easy-to-use hire bikes have been installed outside the Harbour Office and are a great way to explore the local area.

Hiring a bike from the stand is straightforward.  Download the App-Bike app on to your mobile phone and follow the prompts.  The app takes payment (£3 per hour or £18 per day) and controls the unlocking mechanism. There are four bikes at Itchenor, with a further bike station located at Chichester Marina.

Take me to the beach!

The Salterns Way is a largely traffic-free cycle route from Chichester to West Wittering.  Passing through Itchenor, it’s easy to pick up the trail south-west through farmland towards the beach.  It’s just 5km down to West Wittering beach, where you can lock up your bike and take a refreshing dip!

You may choose to cycle east to Chichester Marina (6km) or beyond to Dell Quay (9km); passing through countryside and woodland.  Both are great places for refreshments.

Bikes on board

From Itchenor you could take a bike across the Itchenor Ferry and cycle to the pretty harbour village of Bosham, where there are shop, cafes and pubs.

Whether you’re visiting Itchenor by boat or by car, the bikes are a great way to explore further afield and enjoy all the Chichester Harbour National Landscape has to offer.

Visit the App-Bike website to find out more and download the app.
