Chichester Harbour Conservancy has a duty to prepare an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Management Plan as the framework for the delivery of the statutory purposes and duty. The Management Plan is the single most important document for the AONB, setting out the guiding principles, vision, objectives and actions for managing the area from 2014 until 2019.
Although prepared by Chichester Harbour Conservancy, the Management Plan is for everyone with an interest in the AONB. This includes all the residents and local communities, the specialist interest groups, businesses, visitors and individuals.
The Management Plan will seek to guide the management of Chichester Harbour in a way which will help to achieve its statutory purposes and duty, improving the quality of life for those who live or work in the area or are visitors to it. Therefore, it sets the framework for the Chichester Harbour Conservancy's own policies and activities whilst shaping the plans, strategies, and actions of all other bodies operating within the AONB. The Management Plan will be accompanied by a Delivery Plan, which will provide the detailed actions for Chichester Harbour Conservancy and its partners to deliver the objectives.
The preparation of the Management Plan has been led by a steering group, comprising: West Sussex County Council, Hampshire County Council, Chichester District Council, Havant Borough Council and Natural England. In addition a number of other partners have contributed to its development.
The steering group will soon start working on the Delivery Plan, which will oversee a portfolio of projects and initiatives over the next five years to implement the objectives. The progress of the Delivery Plan will be reviewed and assessed every six months by a newly-created Management Plan Partnership.
